(AUDIENCE CHUCKLING) Um... Yes, I wrote this for the fishermen on Long Island.
(AUDIENCE CHEERING) They're not having an easy time of it.
But I always wanted to write a folk song, and this is about as close as I've ever gotten to writing a folk song.
This is called the Downeaster, "Alexa".

I think I was about four or five years old.
My parents brought me to the circus.
And the star of that year was Gene Autry.
He had a big hit with... Uh... Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer, right?
(SCATTERED CHEERING) (IMITATING GENE AUTRY) ♪ Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer ♪ Had a little shiny nose... ♪ Okay, okay, okay, they know how it goes.
So he tells everybody, (IN WESTERN ACCENT) I want y'all to sing along with me.
And he's got his cowboy outfit on.
He's got his... his six guns.
(WITH ACCENT) So, yeah, yeah, I want y'all to sing.
(NORMAL ACCENT) So the audience doesn't really sing along while he starts and he stops the song.
(WITH ACCENT) I said, I want everybody to sing and he starts shooting these pistols.
And I thought he was aiming right at me.
(FAINT LAUGHTER) (IMITATING LITTLE BOY SINGING) ♪ Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer ♪ It was my first Garden performance.
(AUDIENCE CHEERING) I ain't no Mick Jagger.
