Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship(upbeat music) - Ruff Patch Rescue is a nonprofit, finding forever homes for pets in need, all cared for in loving foster homes.
Volunteer and foster mom, Christina Hewitt is here with more details about the organization.
Hi Christina.
Thanks for being here and you brought your little friend, Itsy, who is itsy.
- Very itsy, thank you so much, we're very happy to be here.
- [Mary] Yeah, so let's talk about what you do.
You help find home for pets in need who have been abandoned or surrendered and all sorts of pets, not just dogs.
- Yes, so not just dogs or cats.
So we're, I mean, cows, goats, lambs, birds, you name it.
And so we just wanna make sure that we find the proper home for those special animals.
- Wow, that's a wide variety of homes to find.
- We like to cast a wide net to make sure that we're not missing any lovable animals.
- Oh, that's great.
And I know you have a foster model, so how does it work?
- Yeah, so once we obtain an animal, we'll go ahead and make sure that they are good and up to health, sorry.
- [Mary] That they're healthy and they've had shots.
- That they're healthy, they've had shots that, you know, anything that they need to be done is taken care of before they go to a foster parent.
And so with that, those foster parents, we're 100% volunteer and foster based.
- [Mary] Okay.
- So while our, I guess home base will be Riverton, all of our fosters are all across Utah, which is phenomenal.
And so without our fosters, we wouldn't be able to care for as many animals, such as Itsy, that are in need.
- Okay, and so then, so you're looking for both people to foster.
- Yes.
- And also for people to adopt.
- Absolutely, and so we do hold an adoption event almost every week.
And these adoption events will have not only Itsy, but other animals there too, for educational purposes and to explore, you know, different animals that you never knew that you wanted.
- Really, no kidding, I might need a goat.
- We do have a pig on the website?
- All right, well thank you so much for what you're doing for them and thanks for being here.
- Absolutely, thank you so much for having us.
