And joining me today is volunteer Tonya Landon and Dash.
Hi Tonya.
Thanks so much for being here.
- Thanks for having us.
- So we saw all these adoptions going up during COVID, but now they're down, and shelters, as you say, are overcrowded and we have animals who need homes.
- That is correct yeah.
Adoptions are down, but relinquishment are up, unfortunately.
So we need more people to come and adopt dogs.
- Alright, so people are surrendering their dogs?
- They are.
They're surrendering 'em for numerous reasons.
It can be for something silly or something serious.
- Yeah, maybe too energetic.
- Too energetic.
- Maybe they weren't expecting it.
And you brought Dash, beautiful little Corgi who's available.
And tell us about Dash.
- Yeah.
So Little Dash was relinquished because the people who got him thought he was gonna be calm.
And corgis are not calm.
He's about three and a half months old.
And this is a good example of the type of dogs we still get in the shelter system.
- [Mary] So a lot of young ones.
- [Tonya] Tons of young puppies.
- [Mary] A lot of puppies.
- [Tonya] Yeah.
We have a lot of purebreds.
We have a lot of doodles right now if you're looking for a doodle.
- Oh, wow.
Wow.
And tell me some of the other services you provide.
Like, do you vaccinate them first?
Tell me what you provide.
So all the dogs that leave will be spayed or neutered, have current vaccinations and dewormed.
They'll also be microchipped and they'll come home with a bag of food.
- [Mary] Oh.
- For the adoption fee.
Yeah.
- And so do you have requirements for people adopting?
- We try to fit the dog to the right person.
So like this little guy would not be good to go home to maybe an elderly couple that's not active.
He's a very active little guy, so he'd need to go home to somebody that's active.
So we try to place the animal in with the right people.
- Yeah.
Okay.
Well I hope we find that fellow a home.
He's adorable.
And thanks for what you do.
Thanks for being here.
- Yes, thank you.
